With summer coming to an end sooner than you may like, there’s no better time to go on a road trip with your close friends or your family. As you begin planning for your epic adventure, it’s important to make sure that you pack a few emergency items along with everything you need to have a good time. In part one of this series, we talked about packing car chargers, first-aid kits, and a set of tools. As we continue with part two, we will talk about a few more items that may come in handy if you find yourself in a less-than-ideal situation.
Before you hit the road for your final trip of the summer, it’s important to make sure that all of your motor vehicle services are up-to-date. It’s easy to forget about renewing your license or your vehicle registration until it’s too late. Thankfully, MVD Express has got you covered. We offer fast and friendly motor vehicle services to help you get back on the road as quickly as possible. Jumper cables may seem like a standard item that everyone has in their vehicle, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t have them readily available. What makes it even worse is that many people don’t come to the realization that they don’t have jumper cables in their car until they need them.
For this reason, it’s a good idea to check your vehicle and see if you already have a pair of jumper cables before you hit the road. It’s easier than you may think to suddenly find yourself with a dead battery, especially if you have a child who may accidentally leave a car light on overnight. If you don’t already have jumper cables, then make sure to pick some up at the store — most department stores will have them — and keep them in your car. Once you buy them, it’s unlikely you will have to buy them again for a very long time!
Bottles of Water
Before you hit the road, you may assign someone the task of being the designated snack person so that you won’t have to stop every few hours to get food. In addition to packing a multitude of tasty snacks, you will also want to make sure that you have plenty of water. While soda and juice may be preferred by the passengers in your vehicle, those types of drinks aren’t always the best for keeping you hydrated. Make sure that each person in your vehicle also brings their own water bottle, and you may even want to invest in a gallon or two of water to keep in your car in case of an emergency. Montana summers can be brutal, and you want to be prepared with extra water in case you’re stuck on the road in the hot sun for any length of time.
Everyone likes to take road trips at their own pace. Some people like to drive straight from point A to point B, while others may like to take their time and make stops along the way. Regardless of what your plan may be, it’s always a good idea to have an emergency flashlight packed in your vehicle.
While most cell phones these days come equipped with a “flashlight,” usually the light provided is better for illuminating larger areas instead of focusing on one spot. If you’re driving at night and you suddenly have an issue with your vehicle, you may want a direct beam of light to really help you see the issue, which is where a flashlight will come in handy. Additionally, if you pack a flashlight that uses batteries, you may also want to have a few spare batteries on hand, just in case.
