Make sure that each person in your vehicle also brings their own water bottle, and you may even want to invest in a gallon or two of water to keep in your car in case of an emergency. Montana summers can be brutal, and you want to be prepared with extra water in case you’re stuck on the road in the hot sun for any length of time.

A Flashlight

Everyone likes to take road trips at their own pace. Some people like to drive straight from point A to point B, while others may like to take their time and make stops along the way. Regardless of what your plan may be, it’s always a good idea to have an emergency flashlight packed in your vehicle.

While most cell phones these days come equipped with a “flashlight,” usually the light provided is better for illuminating larger areas instead of focusing on one spot. If you’re driving at night and you suddenly have an issue with your vehicle, you may want a direct beam of light to really help you see the issue, which is where a flashlight will come in handy. Additionally, if you pack a flashlight that uses batteries, you may also want to have a few spare batteries on hand, just in case.
