As of October 1, 2021, you will not be able to use your standard driving licenses or IDs for domestic flights or to enter any federal building. Do I Need a Driver’s License and a Non-Driver REAL ID?

That is entirely up to you, as you can have two separate IDs or renew your driver’s license with a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license. REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses are easy to distinguish, as they have a gold star in the top right corner.

What Do I Need to Get One?

You may be wondering how long the process takes and whether you will have your new ID before your flight. The whole process takes seven business days. The necessary documents are as follows:

One document to prove your name, date of birth, and authorized presence
One document to prove your social security number
Two documents to prove your Montana residency
One document to prove your name change (if applicable)
